Hi,

Thank you for your letter. It sounds like you are going through a really difficult time right now. I can hear that you’re really worried about what might happen after you have the drugs test. Thanks for being so honest about what is going on and how you’re feeling. That’s not always an easy thing to do.

I have to say I’m really worried about you taking those drugs, but I also know that people take drugs for a lot of different reasons. Have you ever thought about what makes taking drugs feel like such an important part of your life? What do you get out of it? How do you see your future and what things do you want for yourself?

Sometimes people use drugs to try and get away from something, or to try and hide or cover up difficult feelings and memories. Sometimes the things people go through are really painful and they don’t know how else to try to deal with those feelings. It’s important to remember that there are other ways to cope and that you can move on with your life when you’re ready. Drugs can be pretty destructive – they not only cost money, they can also cost you your life. Do you think that maybe that’s why your mum and the people in your school are so worried about you?

Maybe you can think about what you are worried about losing if you do stop taking drugs and then think about what good things you could get out of stopping. Maybe you can have a look at talktofrank or have a look at our message boards for some more information about drugs and how other young people are trying to cope.

You don’t have to go through this all on your own. ChildLine is here for you and we want to support you, even if you don’t feel you can give up drugs right now. Do have a think about some of the questions I’ve asked you – they are just for you to think about and think about what you might want to do now.

You can call Childline on 0800 1111 or you could  log in for a 1-2-1 chat online too.

Take care,

Sam
